2025 Women in Local Government Award Winners
Councillor Elizabeth Re awarded, The Evelyn Parker, Women of Excellence Award - Elected member - City of Stirling
Cr Elizabeth Re having worked for over 35 years for state and Local governments, as an officer, in sustainability and environmental and public health, was honoured as a Fellow of Environmental Health Australia for her services in environmental public health and the promotion of women in the workforce. Cr Re was the first woman appointed as a Principal Health and Building Inspector in Western Australian Local Government. Her advocacy for women and workplace diversity was recognised in 2010, when she was appointed as one of the Australian Ambassador for Women for the Year of Women, in Local Government
Cr Re, is a trailblazer and a champion of change and a strong community advocate and was the seventh Women elected to the City of Stirling Council in 2005 and has been consecutively elected and is currently, the longest serving Woman Councillor, in the Council’s, 155-year history
Cr Re is a Life member and current President of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association WA and has been recognising for this award, for her dedication, passion and leadership in support of women in the community, sporting disciplines and in the workforce and her contributions to representing the diverse needs of her community over many decades.

Ms Sara Saberi awarded, The Rhonda Harvey, Women of Excellence Award - Officer - Shire of Harvey
Ms Sara Saberi has dedicated her career to public service, equity, and empowering diverse voices in Local Government. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Health, Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management and a Diploma of Occupational Health & Safety and has worked, in the private sector and over eight years in Local Government in Western Australia.
Ms Saberi has held various positions as a volunteer with environmental organisations and has been an active member of the community through local Landcare groups and through her passion and commitment to improve the environment, she was elected as a Local Government Councillor, at the City of Canning, from 2017 to 2023.
Ms Saberi, through her experienced and results-driven environmental professionalism and with her expertise in leadership, environmental legislation and across local government and strategic advisory bodies, has seen her being appointed to many boards, such as Swan River Trust and Local Health Authorities Analytical Committee and has been recognised for this award, for her grounded leadership, which is based on inclusion, evidence-based decision-making, and a passion for empowering others, particularly women and migrants to step into public life and shape the future of our communities.
